Watermelon Tajín Spritz 🍉

This one's become my go-to sober curious drink for summer. It's fresh, a little tart, a little spicy from the Tajín rim, and genuinely tastes like a grown-up watermelon Fresca — no alcohol, no added sugar beyond what's naturally in the fruit.

I created this recipe myself, and it's become a staple for beach bonfires, backyard hangouts, or just a hot afternoon when you want something that feels like a treat without the next-day cost.

Watermelon Tajín Spritz — A Sober Curious Mocktail Recipe

Ingredients (makes 1 serving)

  • 2 cups fresh watermelon, cubed (for juicing)

  • 1 tablespoon candied ginger, chopped (or regular fresh ginger, peeled — see note below)

  • ½ fresh lime, juiced

  • 4 fl oz Spindrift Pink Lemonade (see note below)

  • 1 teaspoon Tajín, for the rim

  • 1 lime wedge, for the rim

  • 1 cup ice

  • Watermelon wedge or mint sprig, for garnish

Instructions

1. Rim the glass. Run a lime wedge around the rim of your glass, then dip the rim into Tajín to coat evenly. Set the glass aside.

2. Juice the watermelon. Blend the cubed watermelon until completely smooth. Strain through a fine-mesh sieve into a bowl or pitcher, pressing with a spoon to extract as much juice as possible and discarding the pulp. You should end up with roughly ¾ cup of pure watermelon juice.

3. Muddle the ginger and lime. In the bottom of your Tajín-rimmed glass, muddle the candied ginger together with the fresh lime juice until fragrant and well combined.

4. Build the drink. Add ice to the glass, then pour the fresh watermelon juice over the muddled ginger and lime.

5. Top and garnish. Top with Spindrift Pink Lemonade, give it one gentle stir to combine, and garnish with a watermelon wedge or mint sprig. Serve immediately while it's fizzy.

A Few Notes

On the Spindrift: the watermelon flavor has been discontinued (RIP), but Spindrift Pink Lemonade works great here — the tartness plays really nicely against the sweetness of the watermelon juice. Grapefruit Spindrift is a good second choice if you want something a little more bitter. Plain sparkling water also works if you want it less sweet overall.

On the ginger: candied ginger is not required. Regular fresh ginger (peeled and muddled) works just fine and gives a sharper, less sweet bite. Candied ginger adds a touch more sweetness and a slightly chewy texture that I personally love muddled into a drink — but it's totally optional. If you want to try it, this is the candied ginger I use (affiliate link — at no cost to you, I may earn a small commission). It's also usually available at Whole Foods or Trader Joe's — mine carries it.

Making a batch? This scales easily for a pitcher — just multiply everything except the Tajín rim, which you'll want to do fresh per glass so it doesn't get soggy.
